I love telling this story. The story of how I became a big fan and supporter of Watsons Children’s Shelter.
I believe the natural state of a child is one of playfulness, learning and creativity.
And that can only be allowed when they are immersed in an environment of love and safety.
That’s why I’m doing something playful and creative for Watson Children’s Shelter.
Because they provide that environment of love and safety for kids that have often never know it.
Here’s a quick story.
About 13 years ago, I was cleaning windows inside of one of the McDonald’s in town. I was having more fun than usual, because reaching the glass inside involved climbing all over the playland play structure. Something adults don’t normally get to do:)
As I was cleaning, these two super cute little girls come in to play. They are twins, and about 5 years old.
With the normal curiosity of a child , they barrage me with questions:
“What are you doing?”
“I’m cleaning these windows”
“What’s that?”
“This is a squeegee”
“What’s your name?”
“My name is Sid”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m cleaning these windows”
Etc.
I answer each one with patience and a big smile. I love the innocence and curiosity of kids. And the honesty. But then one of the girls said something with such honesty, that I began to weep.
After I asked if they were having fun on their play date with Grandma, she said, “Yes! Our mommy is in jail for having sex with bad men for drugs.”
My heart sank and tears welled up in my eyes as I looked at these 2 little people, so pure, but damaged. There were several words in that sentence that a 5 year old shouldn’t even know…
Later, I climbed down from playland and talked to “Grandma”
She told me the girls were rescued from a terrible situation, and brought into the safety of Watsons Children’s Shelter. And they would be there until arrangements could be made for them to go live with grandma. There was no dad. Mom had become addicted to meth and become a junkie prostitute. With these little girls at home…
This was literally the first time I had ever heard of Watsons. I did some research and found out how many children they help, and what a difference they make in the lives of those kids.
That’s when I became a big fan.
Watsons does critical work to protect and help kids in time of crisis.
Tirelessly. Every day.
We have done small fundraisers at Spectrum Window Cleaning before. But I want to ramp it up. Turn up the volume, and help make a difference.
If you want to help make a difference, too, here is what you can do:
For the month of August, we are “Cleaning For Kids.”
It is simple.
When we clean windows at your home in August, a full 10% of the proceeds go to Watson’s.
All you need to do is something you were going to do anyway.
Have your windows cleaned.
It makes you happy to have a clear view through sparkling windows. And it makes a difference for that window cleaning in Missoula to support Watson’s.
It doesn’t matter if you are our long time (awesome) client, or if this is the first time we have worked for you. 10% goes to Watson’s. We are doing what we can to help.
It’s funny that we often think that in order to make a difference, we have to become a missionary and move to Africa, or sell our home and donate everything to charity. When really, we can make a difference in our everyday life, simply.
I hope you join us. Call the office and say, “I want to Help Watsons”. (406-544-4289)
We will get you on the schedule fast, and give you amazing clean windows, and some of the best service you have ever had. You will be thrilled – we guarantee it. Plus, part of it goes to help little kids who need it most. Children that need a safe haven.
Cool. Now call. Thanks.
